Hello from sunny Rotterdam. I’m excited to be here because I will be attending Classical:NEXT (C:N) where I’ll be talking about my work with Zephyr Quartet and as an independent performer and composer.
For those of you who haven’t heard about it C:N they describe themselves as the ‘world’s most important classical music meeting’ and it all happens in Rotterdam from May 17-20.
Here’s a bit about the conference from their website:
‘Classical:NEXT was born out of the simple idea to bring the diverse scenes of classical music together and offer them a forum to exchange and develop new ideas around classical and contemporary – or in a wider sense – art music. That was in 2011. Since then, around 3,000 art music professionals representing 1,000 companies from more than 45 countries have engaged with Classical:NEXT and made it into the world’s most important classical music meeting.
The idea of innovation expressed in the event’s name is evident throughout the entire project: In addition to being a networking event, Classical:NEXT has established itself as a key opportunity to promote and explore new talent, new creative ideas and future-oriented business practices. In order to achieve that Classical:NEXT features a conference, an expo as well as showcase concerts and screenings. During four days the hundreds of a delegates meet, discuss, and learn more about as well as from each other.’
I am looking forward to listening to people’s thoughts on forging a musical career in the ever-changing global arts landscape. As well as meeting and and discovering new music and artists from all around the world one of the things that I am most looking forward to is spending time with and getting to know my fellow Australian delegates. It seems ironic to me that nothing like this, on any level for music, exists within Australia and that I have to travel to the other side of the world to spend time with colleagues from Australia!!
